DeKalb Coalition for the Humane Treatment of Animals
Advocating for animal welfare in DeKalb County.
We are a 501(c)3 organization who began as a group of DeKalb County residents who saw a need for a modern and functional animal shelter with a low-kill policy to serve DeKalb County.

With fundraising, community involvement, and speaking to both city and county governments, the new animal shelter came to be. It opened November of 2017.

Who We Are
We are a small, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization made up of community-oriented animal advocates. Our non-profit was formed in early 2020 with the purpose of supporting the DeKalb Animal Shelter.

Our Mission
The mission of the Friends of DeKalb Animal Shelter is to support the DeKalb Animal Shelter by promoting the humane treatment of animals through education, advocacy, and fundraising.
We will achieve this mission by:
-
Reducing adoption costs of shelter animals by sponsoring part of the spay/neuter fees
-
Providing financial support for additional medical needs of shelter animals
-
Assisting the shelter to educate the community on animal care initiatives such as the importance of spaying and neutering our pets and the need for routine vaccinations.
-
Providing animal care, socialization, and comfort to our shelter animals
-
Providing community programs to support the welfare of non-shelter animals such as a Food Bank program and spay/neuter vouchers.

How You Can Help - Our Animals Need You!
- Volunteer your time at the shelter by socializing the animals, helping with daily maintenance and special projects, or providing animal transportation.
- We rely entirely on fundraising, grants, and donations to fund our mission’s goals. Volunteer to help with event planning, promoting our group and its events on social media, or grant writing.
- Make a donation to support our cause.
